Ed Orgeron confirms Rickey Jefferson out for LSU for extended period of time

LSU starting safety Rickey Jefferson is out for an extended period of time following a leg injury at practice Wednesday, Ed Orgeron confirmed at his Thursday press conference.

LSU will be without one of the Tigers' starters in the secondary as Rickey Jefferson will be out for a significant amount of time after an injury in Wednesday's practice to his leg, Ed Orgeron confirmed. There was not a timetable for a return, but it's not soon.

"He broke his leg. It was a leg whip. It wasn't live contact. We hope he'll be back."

The senior has 22 tackles, an interception and a pass breakup on the year.

John Battle will get the start for LSU at safety opposite of Jamal Adams.

The Advocate's Ross Dellenger was first to report the news.
