How it happened
One missed shot at a time. The Tigers came out cold and never warmed up a whole lot on the way to a 27.3% shooting performance (18 for 66) against a Wichita State defense that contested every shot on every possession. LSU was a season-worst 4-for-26 (15.4%) from outside the 3-point arc.
What it means
That LSU’s first three games, while successful, were a big dose of fool’s gold. Now the Tigers have to regroup for their next two games in two days against high-level competition to bring some semblance of respect and momentum back for what looms as a pivotal late November/December schedule.
Player of the Game: F Duop Reath
When he remained on the floor and out of foul trouble, the Tigers’ big man was effective with 11 points, 6 rebounds and a blocked shot.
Craig Victor made his season debut and looked rusty with as many fouls as points or rebounds (5). Him getting comfortable quickly is imperative for LSU. … The three Tigers freshmen managed only 3 points among them, with Skylar Mays and Wayde Sims struggling in their first major test. … Half of LSU’s 14 turnovers were self-inflicted, unforced giveaways.
