AROUND THE HORN

  • The Privateers come into their 2017 mid-week debut after claiming wins over Southern, Illinois-Chicago and Prairie View at Maestri Field. Similarly to LSU, UNO allowed runs in only one of those games – all against UIC in an 8-5 victory on Saturday. The Flames did most of their damage with a four-run 2nd inning against Privateers’ starter Riley Hodge before Tuesday’s starter, Reeves Martin, entered and retired 10 of the 11 batters he faced in 3 innings.
  • 13 of UNO’s 35 hits last weekend went for extra-base hits, including 11 doubles. That adds up to a .553 team slugging percentage.
  • The Privateer pitchers limited their three foes to a .171 batting average and walked only seven batters in 24 innings.

AROUND THE HORN

  • The Pride is on a tour of South Louisiana. They played Murray State, Southeastern Louisiana and Louisiana-Lafayette last weekend and follow their stop in Baton Rouge with a trip to Thibodaux for games against Nicholls State, Southern and Grambling.
  • In three games and 25 innings last weekend, Hofstra managed only two runs on 12 hits. Pride batters struck out 28 times in 91 plate appearances.
  • If Brazill takes the mound, he will certainly be one of the bigger pitchers the Tigers face the season. The sophomore from Barnegat, N.J., is listed at 6-foot-9 and 260 pounds.
  • 21 players on the Hofstra roster hail from either New York or New Jersey. The school famously known as TV character Ray Romano’s alma mater is located in Hempstead, N.Y., a suburb of New York City.
