The Tigers own a 6-4 lead all-time against WSU, with two of the most important wins in program history included: A 6-3 triumph in the 1991 national championship game and an 8-0 romp two years late in the CWS final. This is the Shockers’ first trip to Baton Rouge since 1987 when the Tigers swept a three-game set.

LAST TIME OUT: McNeese State topped the Tigers 5-4 on Wednesday.

AROUND THE HORN

  • Regardless of how this weekend turns out, LSU is off to its worst prior to SEC play since 2007, Paul Mainieri’s first season. However, this is also the toughest pre-league slate the Tigers have played in his 10 seasons, which has yielded an RPI of 13 after 13 games.
  • Robertson is in a 1-for-15 swoon since last weekend.
  • Because of his career-short 1.2-inning outing last Friday, Lange ranks fourth on the team in innings pitched behind Poche, Walker and Zach Hess.
  • WSU comes back to Louisiana for a second week in a row after getting swept at Louisiana Tech last week. The Shockers allowed 33 runs in those three losses.
  • Wichita State coach Todd Butler is an Alexandria/Sulphur native who played at McNeese State and coached there twice interspersed with long tenures as an assistant coach at Alabama and Arkansas.
  • Schwanke’s father Jim was a Tigers’ assistant coach under Skip Bertman from 1995-2000 and part of the 1996 and ’97 national championship teams. Schwanke spent a season at Arkansas and was a DH vs. LSU for a game in 2013.
  • No Shocker has more than 3 stolen bases. WSU has attempted only 13 steals all season.
