LSU Baseball was back on the field on Tuesday to prepare for its home matchup against Southeastern. Paul Mainieri, Kramer Robertson and Greg Deichmann shared the latest on the Tigers.
Notes from LSU Baseball Media Availability
Zach Hess will start on Wednesday against Southeastern, but will be on a pitch count so he'll be available for the weekend against Florida.
Closer Hunter Newman will be reevaluated on Monday after the Florida series and will not make the trip. Surgery hasn't been ruled out, but they have said that he's progressing. No timeline update there.
Paul Mainieri said on Monday that he likes the way Todd Peterson and Matt Beck have looked good in their last two outings and he's not worried about them.
Mainieri echoed that for Alex Lange, who struggled in two of his last five starts or as Mainieri put it, he looked good in three of his last five.
Mainieri said that the lineup changes with Kramer Robertson leading off were supposed to be temporary, but the guys liked it so much that it became permanent. Robertson was facing some tough pitching and was slumping so Mainieri wanted to get him more hittable pitches, which is why he moved to the leadoff spot.
