INSIDE THE BOX | Florida takes opener over LSU, 1-0

Tigers drop their first league game of the season

BOX SCORE | Florida 1, LSU 0

Recap | Gators, Faedo outduel Lange and LSU, 1-0

Point of emphasis | Hitting in the clutch abandoned the Tigers against one of the SEC's best starting pitchers and staffs as they went 0-for-11 with runners in scoring position and left all 9 base runners who reached standing on base.

W -- Alex Faedo (4-1)

L -- Alex Lange (3-2)

Sv. -- Tyler Dyson (2)

GW RBI – J.J. Schwarz RBI SF, 6th inning

  • Six of LSU’s nine starters had a hit Friday, but the Tigers produced back-to-back hits only once all night. Only one hit came with two outs in nine at-bats.
  • Of the 11 times LSU struck out against four Florida pitchers, 8 came with runners in scoring position. 6 of the Tigers’ 9 innings ended on Ks.
  • Lane threw 69 strikes in 107 pitches and recorded 33 first-pitch strikes.
  • The two teams combined for 2 hits in 23 at-bats with runners on base.
  • Friday marked the second meeting in a row that ended with a 1-0 Florida win over LSU. Five of the last seven games between the two have been 1- or 2-run games. The Tigers have lost their last four games to the Gators in Gainesville.

"We needed to win one. Losing all three last weekend, we put ourselves a little bit behind the eight ball. Alex pitched great, both Alex's, they pitched really good, they were both on their game. You could kind of sense that it was going to be a low scoring game. Once we got to about the fourth inning you could kind of sense it."
