AROUND THE HORN

  • LSU’s pitching staff enters on a 13.1-inning scoreless streak, thanks to freshman Eric Walker’s shutout on Sunday and a strong performance by the bullpen Saturday in a 10-8 victory.
  • Although the Tigers’ offense wasn’t overly dynamic as a team at Arkansas, Deichmann was the exception with 6 hits in 13 at-bats with 5 RBIs in the three games.
  • The Tigers’ last loss to the Cajuns was on Feb. 25, 2014, a 4-1 6-inning (rain) decision that ended a seven-game season-opening winning streak.
  • LSU is 11-2 in the Wally Pontiff Jr. Foundation Classic, which began in 2004 when the Tigers posted a 9-3 win over Southeastern Louisiana.
  • This will be the Tigers’ 37th game at the home of the New Orleans area’s Triple-A franchise. LSU is 24-12 at the facility since its first game there against Tulane in 1998.
  • Burk has won his last starts with 5 earned runs allowed over his last 24 innings with 16 strikeouts.
  • Beck will make his first career college start after allowing only 3 hits and 2 runs in 13 innings of work out of the bullpen. He was a workhorse at Alexandria Senior High for three seasons where he piled up 225 strikeouts in 128 innings.
