AROUND THE HORN

  • One of the highlights this weekend will happen Friday when LSU retires the No. 12 jersey of former star Todd Walker, an All-American from 1992-94 and the 1993 College World Series Most Outstanding Player. Walker played 12 years in Major League Baseball and was enshrined in the College Baseball Hall of Fame in 2009.
  • Junior Nick Coomes has emerged the last few games with 5 hits in 10 at-bats with a double 2 runs and 2 RBIs. He started at catcher in the series finale at Arkansas and at first base against ULL.
  • Deichmann is 8-for-15 in his last three games with a 2B, HR and 5 RBIs.
  • Walker blanked Arkansas 2-0 last Sunday to join fellow rotation regular Lange as the only current Tigers who have thrown complete-game 9-inning shutouts. Jared Poche has a 7-inning whitewash this season and logged 8 innings without a run against Maryland.
  • LSU pitchers have allowed only two runs in the last 22.1 innings.
  • Ole Miss’ 2.72 team ERA leads the SEC in all games. The Rebels’ offense has struggled, with a .246 batting average, but last weekend in a sweep at Alabama they swung at a .297 clip (27 for 91) with 12 extra-base hits, including four homers.
  • The 20 runs Ole Miss scored against the Crimson Tide was the Rebels’ most in four conference series this season.
