LSU Baseball Media Notebook 4/17

LSU takes the field against former Tigers assistant Will Davis and Lamar on Tuesday night at The Box. Here are the takeaways from media availability on Monday.

Notes from Media Availability

  • Caleb Gilbert will get the start on the mound for LSU against Lamar on Tuesday night. Paul Mainieri said that he could go an inning, but will probably go more than one. LSU is looking to get a lot of pitchers work once again.
  • Tuesday night will be Prostate Cancer Awareness Night, during which the Tigers will don blue helmets to raise awareness. Mainieri lost an uncle to prostate cancer.
  • Mainieri said that it's tough going against former assistants, but one thing he's learned is to completely block it out, saying that he pretends they're not there for about three hours.
  • When talking about Zach Watson's 11-game hitting streak, Mainieri pointed out that it's his field that's actually been the nicest surprise for the team, saying that he can cover a lot more ground than people give him credit for.
