2018 East Ascension (La.) offensive tackle Cameron Wire made his way over to Baton Rouge to compete in LSU's offensive and defensive line camp on Saturday, his first visit since picking up an offer from the Tigers.
The coaching staff really showed how much they want Wire to be a Tiger after in an impressive showing of their support for him.
“I walked into a coaches meeting they had and all the coaches were clapping and cheering when I walked in,” Wire told Scout. “It was exciting, I felt happy seeing how much they wanted me there.”
LSU offensive line coach Jeff Grimes worked with Wire a lot in the camp, helping him the most with his pass sets. Wire is still a bit raw, but his frame was what impressed the LSU coaching staff enough to get him an offer.
"Helped me with my pass set and some tips to win in one on ones," Wire said. "He said I want to coach you and make you a 1st round pick.”
In his meeting with head coach Ed Orgeron, the Louisiana native reminded the 6-6, 271-pound lineman that he's from around the corner from campus and to make sure Wire knows that he's a priority for the staff. http://www.scout.com/college/lsu/story/1782052-2019-pass-rusher-excited-...
“He (Orgeron) said he loved me and that they are gonna keep recruiting me hard and I have to remember that I live 20 minutes away from LSU,” he said.
Wire will likely be back at some point this summer and plans to take other visits although he doesn't have anything set in stone just yet on that or a commitment timeline. Wire has picked up some big offers this spring from the likes of Alabama, Florida and others in addition to LSU.
The three-star tackle is Scout's No. 82 overall offensive tackle tackle, No. 28 in the South and No. 1 in Louisiana for the 2018 class.
