Loser faces Cal State Fullerton-Florida State winner at 6 p.m. Wednesday

Winners is idle until Friday when it faces whichever team emerges from the loser of this game and Cal State Fullerton-Florida State

AROUND THE HORN

  • LSU is 5-4 against Pac 12 opponents at the CWS: 3-1 vs. Stanford, 2-2 vs. Southern Cal and 0-1 against UCLA. The last time the Tigers faced a Pac team was a 2-1 loss vs. the Bruins in the 2013 CWS.
  • Eric Walker hasn’t thrown since the regional final against Rice, a 5-0 LSU victory. Coupled with a 4-2 win over Arkansas in the SEC Tournament championship game, the freshman is 2-0 with a 0.57 ERA over 15.2 innings with 16 strikeouts and one walk.
  • The Tiger snapped a two-game CWS opener losing streak with their 5-4 win Saturday. The last five times LSU has won its first game, it has followed with at least one more win (2009, 2000, 1998, 1997, 1996), with undefeated runs twice.
  • In his last 10 games, Antoine Duplantis has eight multi-hit games after he went 2-for-3 vs. Florida State. Over that span, Duplantis is hitting .405 (14-for-42) with 7 runs and 10 RBIs.
  • Three of the Tigers’ hottest hitters during their 17-game winning streak – Kramer Robertson, Zach Watson and Josh Smith – were a collective 0-for-11 against Florida State with three strikeouts and one double play.
  • Greg Deichmann has looked fairly human over the last 16 games, hitting .272 (15-for-55). But he continues to produce runs with 15 RBIs, including the game-winner on Saturday.
  • In Zack Hess’s last nine appearances, 21 of the 36 outs he has recorded have come by strikeout.
  • Since the NCAA Tournament began, Michael Papierski is 6-for-13 with 7 runs, 9 RBIs, 2 doubles and 2 home runs.
  • Cal State Fullerton nicked Oregon State for three 1st-inning runs on Saturday, marking only the 18th time all season a Beavers’ foe has scored first. It was also the first time OSU has trailed the entire postseason.
