Benoit getting lots of attention

Nick Saban covets speed in his skill players and one Louisiana product that Saban has targeted for 2004 is Comeaux High School product Tyler Benoit.

The six-foot-one, 195-pound all-purpose player has 4.37-speed and is having a sensational senior campaign but no one ever doubted his physical tools.

"He is doing super," said Comeaux coach Brian Langlinais. "He is playing some defensive back for us, some wide receiver and some tailback. He is not coming off the field. When he needs a break is the only time he comes off. I think with his speed he is a Division-I corner."

The only question with Benoit is his academic status but he is taking measures to get that cleared up.

"He is going to take the ACT in October," Langlinais told Tiger Rag. "He should have the GPA but we are worried about the test score because he has not taken the test yet."

Benoit's academic status may raise some concern but that has not prevented schools from recruiting him since he has offers from all of his favorites.

"He gets something from Oregon every day of the week," said Langlinais. "Florida State, Tennessee, Texas A&M and LSU have been sending a thousand letters a week."
