Boyd among hot linebackers in state

Linebackers are expected to be at a premium in the 2004 recruiting season, and one of the best in the southeast is Hunter Boyd of E.D. White Catholic in Thibodaux.

With schools from all over the region in hot pursuit of the 6-foot-2, 220-pounder, LSU will definitely have to work to obtain his services.

"Alabama, Texas A&M, Southern Miss, Ole Miss, Mississippi State, and all the Louisiana state schools and Arkansas are the schools I'm looking at," Boyd told Tiger Rag. "I'm really pretty open right now, I don't have a favorite."

"I'm liking the recruiting process. It's great to get all this attention but I've still got to perform this Friday-it all boils down to that."

E.D. White will take on Mansfield this weekend in the first round of the state Class 3A playoffs.

A Dallas Cowboys fan, Boyd has tried to model his play after players like Darren Woodson and Charles Haley.

"I try to go all out on every play," says Boyd of his style on the field. "I keep my motor running and just try to pursue as fast as I can."

Boyd is academically qualified with a 3.8 GPA and 23 on the ACT. He has no current plans for official visits, but says he plans on taking as many as he can. He attended Junior Day at LSU last spring and says he definitely left Baton Rouge with a good impression.

"It was a pretty good experience. I really got to see what the program is all about."
