Sanders on Tigers' wish list

One of the top players in the country at his position, West Monroe linebacker Luke Sanders is a player that schools all over the country covet.

LSU coaches and fans are crossing their fingers that the 6-foot-4 219-pounder will choose the Tigers when National Signing day rolls around in February.

On the season Sanders has 89 tackles, two sacks, and was responsible for 11 total turnovers in helping to lead the 10-1 Rebels into the second round of the class 5A playoffs where they'll face McDonough 35 of New Orleans this weekend.

"It's been going really well," Sanders says of the recruiting process. "I'm getting lots of calls from lots of schools that I'm interested in checking out."

Sanders is fully qualified academically and lists his favorite schools as LSU, Oklahoma, USC, Ole Miss, Tennessee and Texas A&M. He currently has no official visits planned, but he did manage to make it down to Baton Rouge for the LSU-Georgia game back on Sept. 20.

"It was a great atmosphere," he says. "With all the fans and stuff, it really made me feel good about how things are going at LSU."

Sanders believes his knowledge of the game is his best asset and says that when it all is said and done, his main criteria for selecting a school will simply be finding the right fit.

"I'm just looking for the place where I fit the best. Where there's good coaches, good people, a good school where I can get an education and a good place to live."
