Doucet ready for rematch

Perhaps the player highest on the wish list of every LSU fan is St. Martinville's superstar Early Doucet.

An exciting playmaker at quarterback, Doucet projects as a wide receiver in college and ranks at the top of every national list at the position.

But right now his focus is on the state playoffs, where he'll face district rival St. Thomas More this weekend.

"We beat them once this year, but this is the rematch," he said.

"Our season went good, but it would have been better without my injury," said Doucet, who pulled his hamstring early in the year and suffered lingering effects throughout the season.

Right now Doucet lists his top schools as Miami, LSU, Oklahoma, Florida State, and Florida.

"It's been pretty good and not too hectic," he says of recruiting. "Since I limited myself to five schools that's really saved me some trouble and other schools the trouble of calling me."

Doucet is academically qualified and said he is planning to take an official visit to Miami on Dec. 12, and then one to LSU later on. He has already been to several LSU games, including Georgia and Florida.

"I know Alley (Broussard), Jesse (Daniels), and Daniel Francis because we played against each other," said Doucet. "I know most of the guys on the team at this point."

"What I'm really looking for is a place where I can come in and work as hard as I can and get playing time as a freshman, but I want to earn it," he said. "I've never had anything handed to me in my life, and that's not going to change now."
