Lady Tigers rip Richmond 76-53

LSU's 16th-ranked Lady Tigers used a 21 point, 12 assist night from tournament MVP Temeka Johnson to defeated Richmond 76-53 in the championship game of the annual www.WOMENSCOLLEGEHOOPS.c- om Classic on Thursday night in the Pete Maravich Assembly Center. <br><br> LSU (7-2) led 38-25 at the break, but Richmond (6-2) scored the first five points of the second half to cut the lead to 38-30 before the Lady Tigers used a 13-0 run to pull away from the Spiders for good.

"The kids played well tonight," LSU head coach Sue Gunter said. "That is two games back-to-back that we at least came out and did what we wanted to do. We played hard and Richmond is a very good team that is going to win a lot of games this season. Overall I was very pleased tonight."

Doneeka Hodges added 18 points for LSU, while Scholanda Hoston had 14 points off the bench. Seimone Augustus chipped in eight points and eight rebounds to joined Hodges and Johnson on the all-tournament team.

Kate Flavin led Richmond with 16 points and seven rebounds, while Araceli Gil had 15 points. Flavin and teammate Amber Goppert were named to the all-tournament team.

LSU shot 55.4 percent from the floor, including 58.6 percent in the first half. Richmond managed to hit 35.1 percent of their shots from the field, while the Lady Tigers out-rebounded the Spiders 37-32.

The Lady Tigers will take Friday off before hosting Southeastern Louisiana on Saturday at 11:30 a.m. in the Maravich Center.
