SUGAR BOWL: Adrian Mayes Q&A

The Tigers' special team standout talks about preparations for the Sooners.

Do you think the special teams are quicker this year?

"I think so and I think we've focused on cutting down the penalties too. We have a chart that if we can cut down on penalties and make them into positives aspects for special teams, we'll be more successful. They say speed kills on and off the field. If you drive too fast, it will hurt you. Hopefully we'll use that speed on Sunday.

No problems with the astro-clay surface?

"Actually it feels pretty good. We've played on this type on this type of surface before. The Georgia Dome is similar. I like playing on it. It feels a whole lot better and a whole lot quicker and a lot softer."

Have you adjusted well to going from defense to mainly special teams?

"Moving around, I was just trying to do what was best for the team. Whatever your role is on the team you need to go out and try to dominate and try and be as successful as you can."
