Abdur-Rahim, a 6-3 senior guard from Atlanta, Ga., has helped the Lions to the best start in school history and led them to wins over Lamar and Sam Houston State this past week by averaging 31.0 points and 5.0 rebounds, while shooting 45 percent from the floor, 48.4 percent from 3-point land and 91.7 percent from the free throw line.
Against Lamar on Wednesday, Abdur-Rahim scored a career-high 33 points with a school-record eight 3-pointers and returned to Saturday to scored 16 of his game-high 29 points in the second half to help the Lions overcome a 14-point deficit to defeat the defending Southland Conference champion SHSU.
Augustus, a 6-1 sophomore guard from Baton Rouge, helped the Lady Tigers to a split this week in the Southeastern Conference, including a thrilling come-from-behind victory at Arkansas and a near come back at Georgia.
At Arkansas on Thursday night, Augustus scored 20 of her 22 points in the second to lead LSU's 16-point comeback victory and connected on a career-best 10 for 10 from the free throw line in the process. She also had six points during LSU's 13-0 run to end the game. She added 24 points in the Lady Tigers loss at Georgia on Sunday, but led a charge that saw LSU come from 13-points down to tie the game, but they could not get over the hump.
This is the third time this season Augustus has won the LSWA Player of the Week honor and the first time for Abdur-Rahim.
