Capers one of New Orleans best

It's been well documented that New Orleans-St. Augustine (La.) is loaded with major college prospects.

One player you may not have heard much about up to this point is tight end Selvish Capers (6-5, 249, 4.7) but that does not mean he is an unknown commodity in the eyes of college coaches.

"I got two offers," Capers told Tiger Rag. "I've got one from Ole Miss and Indiana is the other one."

With two offers and counting Capers is well on his way to achieving a longtime dream of playing college football.

The list of schools actively recruiting the state's top tight end prospect is very impressive.

"On a pretty regular basis I'm hearing from Michigan State, UCLA, Texas, Florida, LSU, Auburn, Purdue, Oklahoma, Florida State, Virginia Tech, Georgia Tech, Ole Miss and Indiana," said Capers.

Who is at the front of the pack?

"My first choice is Georgia Tech because I want to major in computers," he sad. "My second choice would be LSU then Virginia Tech and West Virginia."

Capers described himself as a leader on and off the field. In the classroom he sports a 2.8 grade point average and he took the ACT for the first time in April.

On the field Capers feels like he is the type of person who takes charge and is a go-to-guy.

"I feel that if we need a first down or a big-time play that I can be the one to make that play," he said. "I want it and if we need it I'll do my best to get it. I have good speed and my blocking is good but I think I can do much better than what I am doing."

Capers has room to grow and get bigger and he hopes to improve his numbers in the weight room over the summer, along with making some unofficial visits.

He has a 285 pound bench and he squats 615. As for his summer itinerary he plans on making camp stops at Georgia Tech, UCLA, LSU and Auburn.

Capers also intends on checking out LSU's Spring Game on April 24 so he can get a more up and close look at the Tigers.

This is just another one of the many St. Augustine prospects who will sign with Division-I schools for the Class of 2005
