Baker's Holmes fits DB mold

Every college coach is looking for a few good defensive backs and Dennis Holmes of Baker (La.) fits the mold.

The 6-1, 160-pounder has 4.6 speed and plays cornerback. He has good cover skills but he may be better suited for free safety at the college level due to his physical style of play.

"I read plays well and I am real aggressive," said Holmes who earned first team All-District and All-Metro last season after making 71 tackles, four sacks and picking off two passes. "I have good cover skills and I like to get physical."

Holmes is hearing from a number of schools but does not have an offer yet. As of now he said LSU, Auburn, Alabama, Florida, Michigan State and Florida State stand out above the rest.

"Mostly I'm looking for a head coach that is real hands-on," said Holmes who has a 2.7 grade point average and is awaiting the results of his ACT score. "I'm also looking at the academics and the athletic program overall."

Holmes is going to make an unofficial visit to LSU for the Tigers' spring game on April 24 and he also plans on attending Nick Saban's summer camp.
