St. Aug's Russ names Top 5, waiting on LSU

New Orleans (La.) St. Augustine will get visits from a lot of college coaches in the upcoming weeks when the spring evaluation period begins.

Many will be there to take a closer look at the offensive tackle tandem of William (IHOP) Russ and Ernest Jones.

Russ earned the nickname "IHOP" which is short for International House of Pancakes and the nickname is well deserved.

"That was a name given to me because we always talk about pancakes and I had a lot last year," he said. "Our defensive linemen named me that."

He is a huge 6-5, 318 pound left tackle but he will likely play guard when he gets to college due to his dominant run blocking. He has good quickness and good technique and he has taken some measures to work on the one thing he feels that he needs to improve on.

"I'm working on my upper body strength," said Russ who currently benches 285-lbs. and squats 465. "Right now I'm with a personal trainer and he is helping me build up my core strength. He told me I can improve my bench by 40 pounds by the end of summer."

The letters and phone calls to his coach's office come on a daily basis from schools like Miami, Auburn, LSU, USC, UCLA, Ole Miss, Georgia Tech, Florida State, Florida, Michigan, Nebraska and Colorado. Out of that impressive group Russ has named a top five.

"My top five is Miami, USC, UCLA, Auburn and Ole Miss," Russ said.

Noticeably missing from Russ' top choices is LSU but tat could change in the future.

"If LSU offers they would crack my top five but right now I'm trying to get out of the region," he said. "You never know what will happen though."

Russ has not picked up any offers yet because coaches are waiting for the results of his ACT test he took in April. He has a 2.5 grade point average so the test score is going to be critical to his eligibility.

When he does become a full academic qualifier he will have plenty of schools to choose from.
