Peterman became a leader on the LSU line in his four years as a Tiger, coming to Baton Rouge as a tight end out of St. Stanislaus in Bay St. Louis, Miss. He was eventually converted to guard and started on in 35 of his 48 games with the Tigers.
He will join former teammate Bradie James in Dallas. The Cowboys made the former LSU linebacker a fourth-round pick last year.
The brief Dallas history of selecting LSU players in the draft started in 1997 when tight end David LeFleur was picked in the first round with the 22nd overall pick.
The Dallas Texans drafted quarterback Warren Rabb and halfback Johnny Robinson in the 1960 AFL draft.
