Brooks a jack of all trades

Brandon Brooks is a regular jack of all trades for Baton Rouge (La.) Istrouma.

The 5-8, 165-pounder with 4.5-speed has been a three-year starter at cornerback and plans on seeing more action at running back this season along with returning kicks.

Brooks uses his speed to shut down receivers but his ability to change directions and break on the ball are what sets him apart from other corners.

"He is a great cover man and a good return specialist," said Istrouma head coach Troy Jones. "With his speed and experience he knows how to maneuver himself and get into position. Everybody loves him on film."

Last season Brooks picked off seven passes and was in on 93 tackles to lead the Istrouma secondary. He is being recruited for corner and as a slot receiver and that suits him just fine.

"I'd like to play both but it will probably be corner," he said. "I work hard and my cover skills are real good. They tell me I break on the ball real well. Most cornerbacks hesitate but I just go with it."

Brooks does not have any offers yet but he knows where he would like to play his college football.

"I'm hearing from Michigan State the most but I like my home school LSU," said Brooks who has a 2.5 GPA and will take the ACT in June. "It's been a dream of mine to play at LSU but if I have to go somewhere else then I will. I also like Ole Miss, Southern Miss and Memphis."

This summer he plans on using his vacation to travel to camps at all of the schools he lists along with Auburn.
