Tyler-Lee's Black could join Flynn

Two years ago Nick Saban was able to swipe away one of the Lonestar State's top quarterbacks when he signed Tyler-Lee quarterback Matt Flynn.

Now he is trying to go inside the Texas borders and steal one of Flynn's friends and former teammates in offensive lineman Ciron Black.

"We're pretty good friends," said the 6-5, 318 pound left tackle. "He was my boy. I see him around the weight room and he always shows me that national championship ring. I want to get me one of those."

Black is a big target for the LSU coaching staff in more ways than one. He is a dominating tackle with quick feet and good explosion off the line. Also, he would give Saban someone to play opposite of Herman Johnson down the road to form a very solid tandem.

Black said he already has offers from the Tigers along with Houston, Oklahoma State, Baylor, Texas Tech, Arizona and BYU to name a few. Texas and Clemson are reportedly both close to extending offers and Miami, Oklahoma and Florida are showing a lot of interest.

"LSU, Miami, Florida, Texas and Nebraska make up my top five," he said. "I'm real high on LSU, Texas and Miami but LSU is my favorite."

The big man from Tyler said he plans on taking an official visit to LSU during the season so he can experience some of the atmosphere and tradition surrounding the defending national champs.

"I've always been interested in LSU but when the national champs offer you that makes you feel good," said Black who projects as a full academic qualifier. "I've seen the stadium and the facilities and they are top of the line. I've talked to coach Saban and coach (Mike) Collins and they seem like great guys. It seems like a great place to get an education and play football."
