Fla. CB Evans high on Saban's list

Nick Saban is looking for a couple of good cornerbacks and he is focusing on the Sunshine State to fill that need for the Class of 2005.

Saban has offered a scholarship to Jacksonville (Fla.) Ed White standout Bryan Evans and Evans likes what he has learned about the Tigers and Saban.

"LSU always wins and it has a good program," Evans said. "They always have good corners and coach Saban is a defensive backs coach along with being the head coach. LSU has two of the top corners in the country and they have some ability but some of it has to do with coaching."

Evans helped his team in every aspect of the game by picking off four passes and recording 49 tackles on defense and rushing for 733 yards and 15 scores on offense. He even returned four kickoffs for touchdowns so it's obvious why just about every school in America wants to sign him.

As talented as Evans is on both sides of the ball his future is at cornerback and that suits him just fine.

"A lot of people like me as a cove corner but I like to stick my hat in there and hit," Evans said. I can turn and break on the ball with my speed and quickness. I focus on the basics like back pedaling and recognizing routes and then jumping on them."

Making first team All-State in Florida as a junior gave Evans a lot of publicity and recognition that was well deserved. He has scholarship offers from some of the elite programs in college football to choose from so now it is a matter of finding the right fit.

"Last time I checked I was at around 20 offers," he said. "I've narrowed it down to about 10. Florida State, LSU, Georgia, Miami, Tennessee, Florida, Michigan, Auburn and Maryland are the ones I'm feeling right now. Georgia, Florida, LSU, Florida State and Michigan are recruiting me the hardest and they are the ones sticking in my head right now."

Evans plans on attending LSU's camp in July and he also plans on camping at Florida State later in the summer then he said it's time for him to prepare for his senior year.
