Update: Clarence Ward

Clarence Ward committed to the Tigers three months ago because he liked everything LSU had to offer.

The opportunity to play for the national champions and for one of the top defensive-minded coaches in America in Nick Saban was too good to pass up for the 6-1, 175 pound quarterback/safety.

Ward led a defense last season that shut opponents down en route to a 16-0 record and a state championship. He recorded 93 tackles, picked off five passes and scored three defensive touchdowns.

Some Tiger fans are now concerned that he may be wavering on his commitment because he was quoted as saying he was planning on checking out Oklahoma and UCLA.

Do Tiger fans have anything to worry about?

"Nothing has changed," Ward told Tiger Rag. "I'm going to Oklahoma for a camp and I plan on going to UCLA but I'm just keeping my options open. I'm still committed to LSU and excited about it."

Ward took an unofficial visit to Baton Rouge in June for Saban's summer camp and aside from learning technique from the Tigers' coaching staff he also started adapting to the defensive terminology.

"I worked out with the safeties and corners," said Ward who has the speed (4.5) to play either spot. "They are looking at me for the star position (nickel back) right now and then after that it depends on whether or not I gain weight."

If Ward follows through with his commitment and does indeed sign with the Tigers then Saban will be getting one of the top defensive backs in America.

But what's new?
