Ga. LB Blackmon on LSU's radar

Nick Saban has done a tremendous job of attracting interest from the top out-of-state players from around the country and one of them is LaGrange (Ga.) standout Tray Blackmon.

The 6-1, 193-pounder is a five-star prospect and ranked the second best linebacker in America by TheInsiders. He plays the weakside spot but some schools are courting him for safety because of his 4.5-speed in the forty-yard dash.

Previously Blackmon had not mentioned LSU when listing the schools he liked but that has changed as of late. LSU defensive coordinator Will Muschamp is recruiting him and it looks like the Tigers will get a visit from the Peach State standout either officially or unofficially.

"LSU has a good coaching staff and I have watched the team play on TV," Blackmon told Tiger Rag. "They have a lot of fans and it is a big school. I talked to their defensive coordinator coach Muschamp and he said I would be perfect for the type of defense he runs. I want to go there either during the summer or during the season and see some more."

Blackmon took home first team All-State and All-County honors as a junior after registering 126 tackles, nine sacks and causing seven fumbles. He uses a combination of speed and technique combined with a strong ethic to put him into position to name the school he wants to play for.

"Nebraska, Georgia, Auburn, Virginia Tech, Virginia, Tennessee, Florida, Florida State, LSU, Kentucky, Southern Cal, Alabama, Georgia and Mississippi State are the offers I can think of," Blackmon said. "I like Auburn, Kentucky, Mississippi State, Florida State, LSU and Georgia but it is hard to decide right now."

Blackmon said he does not have a clear leader at this point but he did mention two schools ranked ahead of the others.

"Probably Auburn or Georgia would be my leader," he said. "I went to camps at both places. I got to meet the coaches, some players and had a chance to see everything. Both are close to home too."
