KC wideout Hord doing his homework

D.J. Hord of Kansas City (Missouri) Rockhurst is the nation's 10th rated receiver and one of LSU's top receiving targets for 2005.

He is absorbing as much information as he can about all of the schools he is interested in before trimming his list down and setting up official visits.

Two weeks ago the 6-1, 190-pounder told Josh Clark of TheInsiders.com that Missouri, Florida, LSU and Tennessee standout above the other schools he is looking at with Oklahoma, Nebraska and Notre Dame getting some strong consideration too.

Has anything changed over the past two weeks?

"That is pretty accurate," he said. "However, I am not sure how I would rank them today. LSU would still be in my first group though. I probably would also throw K-State in the mix somewhere. I don't have a top five at this point but I plan to narrow it down in the next three to four weeks."

LSU assistant coach Mike Collins is in charge of recruiting Hord and he has done a good job of selling the Tigers' program on and off the field.

"To this point I believe the coaches have been sincere and truthful about the LSU program and what the school could offer me from an academic and athletic standpoint," Hord said. "I like the coaching staff and what they have accomplished there."

Hord watched a little bit of the Tigers' hard-fought come from behind win over Oregon State on TV on Saturday and he saw something in the team that made a big impression on him.

"I like the overall team attitude," he said. "It never quits. The thing that stuck out the most was how they never quit."
