Calif. QB Dew targeted by LSU

LSU has targeted some of the nation's best quarterbacks in the Class of 2005 but has been unable to get a commitment from any largely due to having two very talented redhsirt freshmen signal callers on its roster.

There are a couple of highly regarded quarterbacks left on the board but none may be as physically gifted as Helmet (Calif.) standout Brandis Dew.

Athletes like Dew are a rare breed this day and time.

He is 6-6, 247 pounds with 4.7-speed in the forty and is a Division-I prospect at quarterback and defensive end.

Not only is Dew a prospect but he has scholarship offers from LSU, UTEP and Duke at QB with Colorado showing a lot of interest.

UCLA has already offered him as a DE and his childhood favorite USC wants to see some more of him on defense before offering.

Dew has a dilemma because he really wants to play for USC but he wants to play quarterback just as bad, so enter LSU.

"I want to play quarterback but I also kind of want to stay close to home," Dew told Tiger Rag. "Out of the schools that have offered me at quarterback LSU is at the top of the list and I'll be visiting there Dec. 11."

It's really no surprise as to why Dew took a liking to the Tigers because it has become a familiar ring with the nation's top players.

"Well first of all they won the national championship," he said. "They have always recruited me pretty hard and they offered me as a quarterback. They always have a good team and I hear they have great facilities."

Dew said for now he plans on taking care of business on the field and then he will focus on recruiting.

He got his senior campaign off to a great start by leading his team to a victory and setting a school record while doing so.

On offense he completed 19 of 32 passes for 337 yards and six scores (school record).

Defensively, he played only 10 plays but recorded one sack, forced a fumble and recorded another one.

Whichever side of the ball he ends up on this young man is going to have a bright future.
