RECRUITING: Christian Ducre update

Mandeville (La.) Fontainebleau safety Christian Ducre (6-0, 190, 4.5) has been getting a lot of attention from LSU in the past month and a scholarship offer from the Tigers could be in the works.

LSU defensive coordinator Will Muschamp was at Fontainebleau High School last week to check on Ducre and apparently he liked what he saw.

At one time LSU looked like it had its needs filled at the safety position with commitments from one of the top free safeties in the country in Clarence Ward and one of the top strong safeties in Chris Keys.

However, within the past month Ward went through some personal problems he does not want to talk about and is no longer on the LaMarque team so it looks like LSU is looking for someone to take his place.

"I know about the Ward dude," said Ducre. "Coach Muschamp said they do not have him anymore and they need two more defensive backs. He told me to keep it up and they will be talking to me soon for free safety."

Ducre has spent the majority of his senior campaign on offense and has rushed for 720 yards and nine scores. In the two games he has played in on the defensive side of the ball he has looked impressive with 20 tackles and one interception from his free safety spot.

He currently has offers from Michigan State and UL-Monroe but he is hearing weekly from Southern Miss, Nebraska, Memphis and Central Florida, along with the Tigers. How does he feel about the interest he has been getting from the defending BCS National Champs?

"I like LSU a lot," he said. "I like the way they get a lot of publicity and I have been a big fan since I was small. If they offer I will probably commit on the spot."

LSU already has one commitment from Fontainebleau fullback/linebacker Steven Korte and he could be bringing a teammate or two to Baton Rouge with him.
