RECRUITING: Derek Pegues update

LSU usually picks up at least one of the Magnolia State's top football prospects each year and one that is getting a lot of attention from the Tigers is Batesville-South Panola athlete Derek Pegues (5-10, 175, 4.5).

Pegues plays quarterback and cornerback for South Panola but projects as a receiver or cornerback at the college level. He is talented enough to play on either side of the ball but the fact the Tigers will lose two starting corners after this season is something he is paying close attention to.

"I'm paying attention to that fact a lot," Pegues told Tiger Rag. "That is really why LSU is in my top five. They are losing two corners so I feel like I could help them out early."

Pegues said LSU tight ends coach Leroy Royals told him he likes what he does with the ball in his hands so playing on offense and the return game is also a good possibility.

"He said they might lose Skyler Green and I feel like I could play early on special teams," Pegues said. "They talk about playing me on offense too so they can get me the ball in the slot."

Along with LSU, Pegues said his top five consists of Tennessee, Michigan, Ole Miss and Alabama. Does he have a leader?

"No leader right now," he said.
