LSU staying in touch with Lucky

The nation's fifth rated running back is Marlon Lucky of North Hollywood (Calif.) and he got his weekly phone call from the LSU coaching staff Monday evening.

The 6-0, 200-pounder has 4.5-speed in the forty-yard dash and LSU running backs coach Derek Dooley would love to have him as an offensive weapon for the next four years.

"I talked to coach Dooley tonight and we just talked about academics and school," Lucky told Tiger Rag. "He said they like me because I am a complete back and catch the ball out of the backfield."

LSU jumped on Lucky early on and that means a lot to the standout back.

"I like LSU because they are the co-national champs and they were the first to offer me," he said. "That keeps them in the picture. I'll find out more when I take my official visit there."

Lucky said he does not have a visit date set with the Tigers but it will likely be sometime in December or early January. For now he said his focus is on four teams being Nebraska, USC, LSU and Mississippi State.

Nebraska is the only school he has visited officially and that has the Cornhuskers in the lead for now.

"I have been to their campus and it is a great place," he said. "Their facilities are great and their fans are great. They have the best facilities I have ever seen."

2004 stats: (5-3)…Rushed for over 1,000 yards and 27 TDs.
