Tigers enjoy cool weather workout

LSU's 17th-ranked football team went through an upbeat practice on Thursday as cooler weather finally greeted the Tigers at the Charles McClendon Practice Facility.

The Tigers, who will enjoy their second open date in the last four weeks on Saturday, will practice again on Friday before taking the weekend off. The Tigers, who are ranked No. 17 in all three polls - Associated Press, USA Today/ESPN Coaches and the BCS - stand at 6-2 overall and 3-2 in conference play.

LSU will use Friday's workout to begin its preparations for Alabama. The Tigers host the Crimson Tide at 6:45 p.m. on Nov. 13 in Tiger Stadium. The game will be televised to a national audience by ESPN.

"We had a good practice today," LSU coach Nick Saban said following the workout. "It was nice and cool and it got everybody's spirit up. We really got back into it today and I thought we had good enthusiasm throughout the practice."

Among those players sitting out Friday's practice were safety Jessie Daniels (hand), wide receiver Xavier Carter (clavicle) and center Ben Wilkerson (knee). Wilkerson will be out for the remainder of the season, Carter will be out 4-to-6 weeks, while Daniels is expected to return to practice sometime next week.
