Webster a semifinalist for Thorpe Award

For the second straight year, LSU cornerback Corey Webster has been named to the list of 12 semifinalists for the Jim Thorpe Award, the award committee announced on Tuesday.

The Thorpe Award is given annually to college football's top defensive back. The list of semifinalists will be trimmed to three on Nov. 22 with the winner of the award being announced on Dec. 9 at ESPN's College Football Award Show in Orlando, Fla.

Webster, a senior from Vacherie, La., has played in seven games for the Tigers, recording 25 tackles and six pass breakups. He's also intercepted a pass, forced a fumble and recovered a fumble.

Earlier this year, Webster earned Southeastern Conference Defensive Player of the Week honors for his performance against Mississippi State. In that game, Webster had two tackles, intercepted a pass, forced a fumble and recovered a fumble in the 51-0 LSU win.

Webster ranks second in LSU history with 15 career interceptions, trailing only Mike Williams who had 20 during his career.
