Temple to be redshirted for 2004-05 season

LSU men's basketball coach John Brady announced on Wednesday that freshman Garrett Temple will redshirt for the 2004-05 basketball season.

Temple of University High in Baton Rouge, is the third member of the Temple family to be a part of the LSU basketball program following in the footsteps of his father, Collis, Jr., who played in the mid-1970s and his older brother, Collis III, who played at LSU from 2000-2003. Ironically, Collis III was also redshirted his freshman campaign after an injury on the first day of practice of the 1998-99 season.

"After visiting with Garrett and his mother and father, we feel it is in Garrett's best interest to redshirt this season," said Brady. "Garrett knows this is a positive decision for him and he is fortunate to have parents who can advise him on the bigger picture of what lies ahead. I am confident Garrett will have an outstanding career at LSU and will benefit, as our team will, from this decision."

As a redshirt player, Temple will continue to practice with the Tiger basketball team through the 2004-05 season.
