Eight named to <br>All-SEC team

BIRMINGHAM, Ala -- LSU football players Marcus Spears, Lionel Turner, Ben Wilkerson and Andrew Whitworth each earned first-team All-Southeastern Conference honors by the league's 12 coaches, it was announced by the conference on Monday.

David Jones, Claude Wroten, Corey Webster and LaRon Landry all earned second-team honors.

LSU, 9-2 and heading to the Capital One Bowl in Orlando, Fla., had the second most selections with eight total. SEC Champion Auburn led the way with 10 selections.

Spears, a senior defensive end, and Turner a senior linebacker, helped in leading LSU to having one of the nation's top defensive units. Spears collected 48 tackles, including a team-high nine sacks and 17 tackles for a loss. Turner was second on the team with 75 tackles, including five tackles for a loss.

Wilkerson, a senior center, earned the honor despite missing the final three games due to a knee injury. Whitworth, a junior offensive tackle, along with Wilkerson, blocked the way for 19 rushing touchdowns and 2,208 yards on the ground in 2004.

All four first-team selections for LSU made the team for the first time.

Jones, a junior tight end, pulled down eight catches for 138 yards and one touchdown this season. He also started eight games.

Wroten, a junior defensive tackle, gathered 41 tackles in his first season with LSU. He also collected five sacks and 11 tackles for a loss.

Webster, a senior cornerback, had 31 tackles, two interceptions and eight pass break ups during the season. He was also named first-team all-America by the AFCA last week.

Landry, a sophomore safety, led LSU with 86 tackles. He also collected three interceptions, three sacks and had five tackles for a loss.
