Holliday to receive grayshirt from LSU

Zachary (La.) Northeast running back Trindon Holliday (5-6, 160, 4.4) received a "gray shirt" scholarship offer from former LSU head coach Nick Saban several months back.

The agreement was that Holliday would enroll at LSU in December and be part of the Class of 2006 rather than joining the team in August and counting against the ‘05 class.

Now that Saban is gone some wondered whether or not LSU's new coach Les Miles would honor that commitment from the Tigers.

Well, Holliday had a brief meeting with one of LSU's new assistant coaches, Josh Henson, and there was good news to report from that brief encounter.

"He (Henson) came by my house last Monday and said whatever Nick Saban offered it was still on the table," Holliday told Tiger Rag. "He said they gray shirt was still there and I'm cool with that."

Holliday said he has not made a definite decision about the offer but he was leaning to taking it. He will visit Southern Miss this weekend and then Southern the following weekend before closing things out at LSU the last weekend in January.

The previous staff liked Holliday as a return specialist and a slot receiver and that is the same role the new staff sees in him.

Holliday is a threat to take it the distance every time he touches the ball and he has so much speed that if he gets the ball with a little space then he is gone. As a senior, he eclipsed the 2,000-yard mark on the ground and took home All-State honors for the second consecutive year.

There is a chance the speed merchant could end up being a member of the ‘05 class if Miles has room on signing day but only time will tell.
