Bass named SEC Player of the Week

LSU sophomore forward Brandon Bass was named the Southeastern Conference men's basketball player of the week for his efforts this past week in LSU wins over Ole Miss and Mississippi State.

The conference office in Birmingham announced the award on Monday.

This is Bass' first player of the week honor and the first one for LSU since Dec. 29, 2003 when Jaime Lloreda won the honor. It marks the ninth time an LSU player has received this honor over the last 10 seasons.

The Baton Rouge product led an LSU rally from 10 down in the second half for a 70-60 win over Ole Miss. He totaled 14 points, 11 rebounds and five blocks in that game. Bass scored a team-high 26 points with 11 more rebounds and five blocks against Mississippi State in LSU's 69-62 win over #24 Mississippi State on Saturday. He helped hold Lawrence Roberts of Mississippi State to just 3-of-11 shooting on the defensive end.

Bass now has three straight double-doubles, giving him seven for the season. Bass enters Wednesday night's game in Athens against Georgia averaging 17.2 points per game and 8.8 boards a contest, while blocking 1.8 shots per game.
