Miss. top RB Davis has an offer from LSU

The No. 1 running back in Mississippi for the Class of 2006 is Derrick Davis (5-11, 210, 4.55) of Meridian and he says he already has an offer from LSU head coach Les Miles.

"Auburn, Mississippi State and LSU have offered so far," said Davis, who is fully qualified with a 3.1 GPA and an 18 on the ACT. "I am hearing from a lot of schools but Alabama is probably showing the most interest."

He will surely have a lot more offers to choose from down the road. Coaches love the way he picks a hole and then explodes through it leaving would be tacklers on the ground.

"I am a workhorse back there," said Davis, who rushed for 1,973 yards and 24 touchdowns last season. "I do not have too many moves so if you get in front of me I will try to run over you. My strongest asset is my vision. I can find the hole and hit it."

The Magnolia State product was one of the first running backs to pick up an offer from Miles. He has been following the Tigers for some time now and likes what he sees in the program.

"LSU is one of my favorites right now along with Auburn," he said. "I like the academic program and the way they use their running backs. It always seems like they have good running backs."

One of the reasons Davis initially took an interest in the Bayou Bengals was because he loved watching another guy named Davis (no relation) run with the ball.

"I remember watching Domanick Davis run and thought how good he was," he said. "That guy would make some tough runs and it was so hard to bring him down. Watching him play really got me excited about LSU."

Playing in the SEC is something Davis would like to do but he said he would keep an open mind to any and all suitors.

"I will look at the location and how many backs they have before I start narrowing things down," he said. "I will look at the school overall and pick the one that best fits what I am looking for."
