LSU's strength of schedule tops in SEC

The LSU men's basketball team continues to make its case for post-season play with not only double-digit wins in the Southeastern Conference, but the league's best strength of schedule rating as well.

LSU enters the final week of the season with a 10-4 record in the league (17-8 overall) and tied for the lead in the Southeastern Conference Western Division with Alabama. LSU plays at Ole Miss Wednesday and hosts Vanderbilt at 3 p.m. Saturday in the Pete Maravich Center. Alabama will host Auburn on Wednesday night before traveling to Mississippi State for the finale on Saturday.

The Tigers enter the week, according to, with the best strength of schedule rating in the league, ranked 22nd in the country, one spot ahead of Alabama at 23rd. Tennessee is third at 31st, South Carolina 38th, Vanderbilt 42, Georgia 44th and Kentucky 45th giving the league seven of the 50 toughest schedules in the country this season.

The SEC also ranked tied for first in the nation with five teams ranked in's Top 40 as of Feb. 28. Kentucky is ranked 11th in the RPI, followed by Alabama at 14 and LSU at 27th. Mississippi State (31) and Florida (32) are the other teams ranked in the top 40.
