Justin Vincent makes it official

There was speculation out of Wisconsin ysterday that Barbe running back Justin Vincent was wavering from his pledge to LSU. He ended the rumor by sending his signed letter of intent to the Tigers this morning.

Vital Data: Vincent entered his senior season as the most-heralded running back in the state of Louisiana and did nothing to tarnish that honor as the year progressed. He closed out his prep career with 2,314 yards (5,464 career – school record) and 40 touchdowns. Coach Jimmy Shaver elected to line him up at quarterback on some plays to give a new look to opposing defenses.

Tiger Rag's take: The depth situation is good at running back for LSU, but there is always room at the top for a freshman who can separate himself from the back. Vincent has this ability and fall practice will determine whether he's destined for a redshirt or legitimate playing time.

The Scoop: With 4.5 speed, it is no surprise that Vincent has been a strong contributor on the Barbe track and field team. He was part of the 4-x-100-meter relay team that advanced to the state finals in Class 5A last year. Vincent was also a prominent part of the Barbe baseball team that competed for the state championship in 2001.
