Williams focused on LSU

Longview (Texas) offensive tackle Trent Williams (6-5, 290, 5.1) is one of the top linemen in North Texas and a major focus of the LSU coaching staff.

He is up to eight scholarship offers as the May evaluation period approaches and one school is sitting alone at the top of his list.

"Right now LSU is at the top," said Williams, who also has offers from Oklahoma State, Mississippi State, Oklahoma State, Arizona, Colorado State, Houston and TCU. "My top five would be LSU followed by Oklahoma State, Florida, Texas Tech and Arizona. I haven't gotten offered yet but I'm being recruited pretty hard by Florida, Texas Tech, Texas A&M, Arkansas and Iowa."

What catapulted the Tigers ahead of all of the others?

"I like the environment down there and the coaches," he said. "I feel like I fit in good over there and I like the direction the program is headed."

Williams got a first hand look at the program when he attended LSU's Junior Day a month ago and he was overwhelmed with what he saw.

"I liked everything I saw," he said. "From the academic center to the new weight room they are building and so on. They are building so much stuff that will make it the best around. It doesn't seem like too many colleges can beat what they are going to have."

LSU's coaches must have been impressed with what they saw in Williams because three days after he returned from his trip he received a call from the Tigers' headman.

"He (Les Miles) called and talked to my coach and then I called him later that day," Williams said. "He told me they wanted me and that I would be a good addition to the team. He told me I had a chance to play early and that is something I'm looking for."

Williams plans on camping at LSU over the summer to get a more in-depth look at the Tiger program. There is a good chance he will make a commitment by then or be very close to choosing a school.

"I am trying to make my decision before school starts next year so I can focus on the task at hand which is my senior season," he said. "I want to get recruiting behind me."
