Chatman named Team USA assistant

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -- Pokey Chatman, the head coach of LSU's Lady Tigers basketball team, was named an assistant coach of the 2005 United States Basketball World University Games team, it was announced on Tuesday.

The selections that also included Harvard's Kathy Delaney-Smith as the head coach and Boston College's Cathy Inglese as the other assistant coach, were made by the USA Basketball Women's Collegiate Committee.

"The opportunity to represent USA Basketball is an honor every player and coach dreams of during their career," Chatman said. "I am excited about being a part of the kind of teaching and coaching environment USA Basketball creates when you bring together some of the best coaches in the country along with the country's most talented collegiate players."

Chatman, in her first year as LSU's head coach, guided the Lady Tigers to a 33-3 overall record, the program's first Southeastern Conference regular season title and a second straight trip to the NCAA Final Four. For her efforts she was named the National Coach of the Year by the United States Basketball Writers Association, Naismith and the WBCA.

The USA World University Games Team coaching staff will select the 12-member team during the USA Basketball Women's National Team Trials held at the United States Olympic Training Center on May 19-22.

The 2005 World University Games will be held August 11-21 in Imzir, Turkey.
