Brown has collected five offers

Les Miles and his assistant coaches have been traveling from coast to coast the last couple of weeks utilizing every second of the May evaluation period. Last week, Miles stopped by Alexandria Senior High in central Louisiana to take a look at super running back Chris Brown (5-11, 195, 4.4).

In 2004, Brown toppled the 2,000-yard mark for the second consecutive season and showed why he is one of the most exciting players in the state when he gets his hands on the ball. He has legitimate 4.4 speed and moves that leave defenders scratching their head as they watch him run to pay dirt.

Miles has already extended a scholarship offer to fellow Louisiana backs, Charles Scott and Richard Murphy, so many wonder where Brown fits into the Tigers' equation?

"When I talked to him (Miles) at school that was the first time we ever spoke," Brown said. "He got some more film from my coach and said he was going to be sending me a lot of stuff. He didn't say anything about an offer because we really didn't get too in-depth about that. He just said he was going to be staying in touch."

Brown may not have a scholarship offer from the Tigers but he does have one from Oklahoma, Alabama, Arkansas, Mississippi State and Southern Miss. He says he does not have a favorite out of that group but that could change if Miles comes forth with an offer.

"I've always liked LSU," said Brown, who projects as a full academic qualifier. "Being from Louisiana that is all you hear about is how much everybody likes LSU. I would like to stay kind of close to home and I know my mom would love for me to go to LSU. I am hoping they give me an offer but we will just have to wait and see."

Some feel that Brown would make a great receiver at the college level because he has such outstanding speed and dangerous moves in the open field. The topic did not come up in the brief conversation he had with Miles but it is a move he said he would consider.

"I haven't really thought about it too much but I would make the move if I had to," said Brown. "I can catch the ball pretty well and I don't think it would be too tough of an adjustment. I play a lot in the slot right now so I know how to get off the line."
