Lazare to represent LSU at leadership conference

LSU men's basketball player Darnell Lazare will represent the Tigers at the 2005 NCAA Leadership Conference at Disney's Wide World of Sports Complex in Orlando, Fla., this weekend.

Lazare is a representative on the Student-Athlete Advisory Council. The forward from Baton Rouge, who just completed his sophomore season, averaged two points and 1.2 rebounds with six total blocks while playing in 25 games. Against New Orleans early in the season, he led the Tigers with seven rebounds.

Almost 325 student-athletes were selected from over 1150 nominations from almost 300 institutions. Participants were chosen from a pool of representatives on the SAACs from Division I, Division II and Division II institutions.

The NCAA Leadership Conference provides NCAA student-athletes with a forum to openly discuss issues that may affect them on their campuses and in their communities, while also providing them with the opportunity to enhance their leadership, communication, decision-making and problem-solving skills. The leadership conference also promotes better communication among student-athletes, coaches, administrators, faculty and communities. The five-day leadership conference consists of daily exercises and activities to help the student-athletes develop as individuals and as contributing members to a group.
