Breaux Bridge DB first 2003 commitment

The LSU football team picked up its first verbal commitment for the class of 2003 from Breaux Bridge defensive back Jesse Daniels.

Daniels earned all-district and Class 3A all-state honors for the second straight year after his junior season. College coaches have been impressed with his strength and speed.

According to Breaux Bridge head coach Michael Mowad, Daniels (5-11, 195) has posted weight room maximums of 305 pounds in the bench, 415 in the squat and a 265-pound power clean. His forty-yard times have been "legit 4.5" said the coach.

"For us he's a free safety," said Mowad. "I think LSU projects him as a strong safety or run-support type guy. He also has the ability to overlap and play just like a free safety."

Although he is pledging early to the Tigers, Mowad said he expects other schools to continue pursuing Daniels.

"He has been getting letters like crazy," said Mowad. "I suspect once they see his name on the Internet or on these recruiting services they're going to come after him like crazy."
