Blue Jays nab LSU's Patterson

LSU senior outfielder Ryan Patterson was selected in the fourth round of the Major League Baseball draft Tuesday by the Toronto Blue Jays.

Patterson, a 2005 Sports Weekly/ESPN first-team all-American, enjoyed a brilliant three-year career at LSU after transferring prior to the 2003 season from Texarkana (Texas) College.

The Rowlett, Texas, native hit .353 (284-for-805) during his LSU career with 66 doubles, five triples, 50 homers, 203 runs and 174 RBI.

He is among the top 10 in several LSU career categories, including doubles (No. 2), home runs (No. 5), hits (No. 5), total bases (No. 5), RBI (No. 8) and runs (No. 9).

Patterson, a three-time all-SEC performer, batted .369 (92-for-249) in 2005 with 23 doubles, two triples, 20 homers, 74 runs and 56 RBI, leading the Tigers to the SEC Western Division title.
