Construction worker injured at Mike's new habitat

A worker was struck by an aluminum scaffold board at the construction site at Mike the Tiger's new habitat on the LSU campus on Wednesday morning and was taken to a local hospital for observation, said Kelly Parr, safety director for Gibbs Construction Company.

At approximately 8 a.m. on Wednesday, an employee of a subcontractor was working on the first floor of the tower in the new habitat when an aluminum scaffold board fell to the ground and bounced up, striking the employee in the back of the neck.

Per Gibbs Construction safety policy, paramedics were alerted immediately and the employee was extricated by Baton Rouge Fire Department and EMS personnel. The employee was then transported to Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center. The individual is in stable condition, and was responsive and conscious throughout the process.

The incident is still under investigation by Gibbs Construction. The name of the employee has not been released pending notification of family.
