LSU coaches traveled to Sherman Oaks during the spring to scout Forbath in person and shortly after his workout Tiger head coach Les Miles extended an LSU offer.
Forbath enjoyed a record setting junior campaign where he set a California record for points in a season with 130. He connected on 19-21 field goals with a long of 52 yards and was perfect on all 73 of his extra point attempts. His responsibilities didn't end there because he also handled the punting chores and boomed his punts to the tune of 45 yards a kick.
In addition to his offer from the Tigers, Forbath also sports offers from Notre Dame, UCLA, Oregon and Northwestern. Is there a leader in that group?
"Not really," Forbath told Tiger Rag. "I'm keeping all of my options open to all of the schools right now."
One of those options rests in Baton Rouge, which is a long ways away from the West coast. Will distance play a factor?
"It will factor in a little bit," he said. "Ideally it would be nice to stay out here but it really doesn't matter that much."
Since staying close to home would be ideal for Forbath and Baton Rouge is nestled in the Deep South how would he gauge his interest in the Tigers?
"It's probably medium interest right now," he said.
Forbath said he is a complete stranger to the culture in South Louisiana and to what LSU has to offer outside of athletics but his parents are doing a lot of research and asking the LSU coaches a lot of questions.
"My parents are looking into LSU and asking a lot of questions to see what it is like," said Forbath. "We really don't know much about them other than that have a top-notch football program. You don't hear a lot about schools from that part of the country out here but LSU was all over the news two years ago when they split the national championship with USC."
Forbath said he has unofficial visits planned to Notre Dame and Northwestern later in the summer and there is a chance he will also check out LSU on an unofficial.
If Les Miles and company can get him in for a visit then the Tigers may be able to pull one of the nation's top kickers to Cajun country.
