LSU athletics ads take national awards

LSU Athletics earned four national honors, including a "Best of the Best" award, for advertisements at the 2004-05 National Association of Collegiate Marketing Administrators (NACMA) Awards.

The newspaper advertisement "Taste like Turkey" featuring LSU men's basketball player Glen Davis, was named one of the five "Best of the Best" winners, an award given to the top five campaigns regardless of category or group. It also won first-place in the Best Single-Day Newspaper Display Ad.

The baseball game promotion "Bald is Beautiful Night" placed second in the Best Targeted Group Promotion and the "It's Hoops Time" men's basketball season ticket campaign earned a third-place in the Best Season Ticket Sales Campaign.

"We are very pleased with the national recognition these ads received," said Guy Gaster of the LSU marketing department. "There are a lot of people that put a great deal of effort into designing these ads and those are people that deserve these honors."

The "Taste Like Turkey" ad was developed by Gaster, designed by athletics department publications director Jason Feirman with the photo by staff photographer Steve Franz.

The NACMA Awards program honors outstanding achievement in marketing and promotions. Awards are presented in 18 categories and placed into groups based on a total of 720 entries.

NACMA is a professional organization created by intercollegiate marketing administrators for intercollegiate marketing administrators. This professional organization provides for the exchange of current trends in intercollegiate marketing.

LSU has now received six NACMA recognitions over the past two years, including a second-place in 2004 for the "Wild Wednesday" promotion with Guaranty Broadcasting in the Best Radio Promotion.
